The BBC is planning to examine the life and career of J.K. Rowling in a two-part documentary that will likely spark scrutiny.

UK distributor Ragan Productions (Grenfell: Uncovered) has acquired J.K. Rowling (working title), exploring the author's dramatic rise, cultural influence, and legacy.

The first episode shows the creation of Harry Potter and the stratospheric success of the wizarding world created by Rowling.

The second episode examines her interventions on Scottish independence, feminism, free speech and gender identity, which have put her at the center of increasingly bitter online exchanges.

The documentary uses rare archives, Rowling's own words, and interviews with people who worked with her throughout her career. The announcement did not specify whether Rowling would be interviewed or co-operate with the documentary.

J.K. Rowling is being shopped at MIPCOM, but it's unclear when the documentary will be screened. It's possible - but not confirmed - that the BBC could look to air the documentary at the same time as HBO's Harry Potter series in December.
