A Florida man faces first-degree attempted murder and child abuse charges after allegedly shooting his girlfriend, running her over, and fleeing with a child in his vehicle.

A Florida man is facing charges after deputies say he shot his girlfriend and then ran her over with his vehicle while her child was in the car.
It happened after the couple allegedly got into an argument across the street from a bar in Safe Harbor, Florida.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Christopher "Dodge" Smith, 40, was the man behind the attack.

Deputies named his girlfriend Jessica Antolini, 30, as the victim.
According to a criminal complaint, Smith showed up at a bar on Tuesday just before 9 p.m. It appeared to be "hunting" the victim, witnesses said, adding that he appeared "possessed".

When the suspect found his girlfriend, they got into an argument outside the bar and he shot her in the face, the complaint states.
After shooting her, deputies say he ran her over in his SUV and left the scene with her 5-year-old child in the car, leaving the victim behind.

"Detectives say multiple 911 calls reporting the shooting were received from witnesses who also provided information about Smith's vehicle," the report said.
Responding to those multiple calls, deputies arrived on scene and later located Smith's SUV and attempted to pull him over.
Deputies say he failed to act because "his vehicle was stationary."

He was arrested on charges of first degree murder and child abuse after a chase.

His girlfriend is still in critical condition in hospital. The child in the car was not injured in this incident and joined the family.
Smith is sitting in a cell in the Pinellas County Jail without bond on a charge of attempted first-degree murder.
