Gary Causey, a veteran talent agent who co-founded United Talent Agency, has died. He was 92 years old.

Causey died on October 5 at his home in Carmel, California. He was known for representing television's top writers and played a quiet role in the rise of the modern presenter in the 1990s and early 2000s. Cosey had not been active with the agency for several years, but he remained a popular mentor to a number of the agency's current partners. "Gary Causey was a true character whose integrity and extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him," said Jay Source, partner and vice chairman of UTA. As one of the original founders of UTA, he was a staunch advocate of representing writers with strength and passion while teaching younger agents the secret sauce to success. He will be greatly missed by all of us at UTA. Popular in Variety

"Having a show on the air is like hitting a single," Cousy told Variety in 1997, using a baseball analogy. "Getting a show on the air that stays on the air is like playing at home."

In recent years, Cozi has been active in animal rescue efforts. He was responsible for rescuing many dogs over the years, including racing-bred greyhounds from poor conditions.

Cosey began his career in the late 1960s as an assistant at the William Morris Agency in New York. After rising through the ranks, he left to move to the West Coast to join then-powerhouse Creative Management Associates in 1973. He left CMA after two years to form his own agency, Cosay, Werner & Associates. From there, Cosay merged his business with literary powerhouses Jim Berkus and Robert Stein to form Berkus-Cosay-Stein in 1982. In October 1983, the Cosay Company merged with the Robert Littman Company to form Distinguished Artists.

In early 1991, Outstanding Artists merged with the Bauer-Benedek agency to create UTA. Cosey's place in the literary world of television helped establish the young agency as a haven for up-and-coming and established writers.

According to Causey, there will be no public memorial service. Family and friends request that donations be made in Kosai's memory may be made to the SPCA of Monterey County.
