NASA has released more than 800 gigabytes of science data, images and video from the Artemis 2 mission to the public on its website, titled Artemis 2: Science Highlights. This rare dataset makes information about one of the most historic manned missions in deep space available to the public.
NASA's extensive archive includes more than 11,000 photos and videos and more than 8.5 hours of audio files. Among the files are images with astronauts' markings showing the locations of "collision sparks" on the moon's surface; Sparks caused by the impact of stray rock fragments and micrometeorites on the moon's crust.
One of the most interesting parts of this archive is the video below of the astronauts' conversation with the ground control team in Houston, during which they report seeing these impact phenomena.
Sparks caused by cosmic rocks impacting the surface of the Moon have been recorded before, but the examples seen by the Artemis 2 crew on the hidden half of the Moon are probably the faintest impact sparks recorded with the unaided human eye in history; An event that shows the excitement of the astronauts present in the spacecraft in the conversations sent.
In addition to visual and audio data, NASA has made three technical documents available to the public and researchers to simplify the analysis of this large volume of raw data. These documents are available under the titles "Artemis 2 Lunar Science Preliminary Report", "Artemis 2 Lunar Science Operations Report" and "Artemis 2 Lunar Science Data User Guide".
