Motorcycle-Only Lane Launched in Tehran

The managing director of Tehran's Traffic and Transportation Organization announced a trial launch of a motorcycle-only lane on Mahallati Expressway and said: In the first phase, a network of about 14 kilometers is planned on the expressways leading to the city center.

Ambassador of Arjan-Social Group: Pouria Alimardani, CEO of Tehran Transport and Traffic Organization, referring to the resolution of the Tehran Traffic Council regarding the creation of special routes for motorcycles, stated: According to this resolution, motorcyclists who follow the rules, use helmets, and their motorcycles have legible and undamaged license plates can use these routes. In this plan, electric motorcycles are prioritized.

He stated that the special motorcycle route has been created on an experimental basis on the Mahalati highway, adding: The implementation of this project has started and the necessary arrangements for its control and management are being made. Also, based on the approved map, these routes will be created in other target intersections.

Referring to the prediction of a 14-kilometer network in the first phase of this project, the CEO of Tehran Transport and Traffic Organization said: This network will be established on some highways leading to the center of Tehran, of which Mahalati highway is one of them. This highway is directly connected to the market and a significant part of its traffic is dedicated to motorcycles.

Alimardani continued: According to the urban road design regulations of Iran, the movement of motorcycles on the highways is prohibited and it is necessary to organize their movement path in such a way that it is separated from other traffic paths. Based on this, the creation of special motorcycle lanes has been approved by the Tehran Traffic Council.

Referring to the implementation of this plan in Mahalati highway, he noted: God willing, this plan will gradually be implemented in other target highways as well. Especially the highways that lead to the center of Tehran and the central area of the city. Of course, the creation of these routes will be done in the roads where it is possible to implement the plan and the necessary capacity and demand for using the special motorcycle route is available.
