Appreciates "customers will be concerned".
Former gaming retailer Zavvi may be closing for good. The company announced that it had entered administration and had suspended trading until the bankruptcy process was resolved.
Zawi announced the news in a message on its website, naming BDO LLP as the company handling the administrative process. The message reiterated: "[Zavvi] is unable to fulfill any orders or pre-orders. Please also note that we cannot accept returns of any kind on any item.
"We appreciate that customers who have paid for items that have not been received will be concerned about their orders and payments," the message added. A customer request email address is set up, but it seems to send more of an automated response.
Zawi's intention to appoint directors was reported a month ago with the alleged aim of "protecting the business and its stakeholders and ensuring the best possible outcome". Exactly what that means and whether it's a real play to save the company or ensure investors get their money back before closing remains to be seen. But this appointment of managers - although it is anticipated - does not necessarily mean the end of the angle.
Zavvi was once a household name in video games. Zavvi was formed when Virgin Megastores was spun off from Virgin as an independent company in 2007, making it - at the time - one of the largest independent entertainment retailers in the UK. But the good times didn't last until barely a year later, Zawi entered management (for the first time). The Hut Group bought Zavvi out of management in 2009, after which the company focused more on pop culture and entertainment sales.
