EXCLUSIVE: The Association of British True Crime Producers (ATCP) is opening its doors to indies outside the UK for the first time, including three from the US.

Gennie Studios, My Entertainment and Texas Crew Productions are joined by Perpetual (Australia), Southern Exposure (South Africa), Our Story (New Zealand) and Serial Maven Studios (Canada).

Woodcut Media President Keith Beale, who chairs the ATCP, said: "Our productions are seen on global platforms and establishing membership in the ATCP as an internationally recognized indicator of commitment to the highest production standards in true crime programming is an important next step in the evolution of our association."

True crime shows have boomed in recent years, particularly in the US and UK, and community producers know they need to adhere to guidelines to avoid slipping standards. The need for the forum in the UK became more apparent after the suicide of true crime producer John Balson, who was working on a Channel 4 true crime series in the months leading up to his death.

ATCP members include Avalon, Back2Back Productions, CMG Productions, First Look TV, Flicker Productions, Good TV, High Rock Media, ITN Productions, Middle Child, Monster Films, North One Peninsula TV, Phoenix Television, Producing Partners, Rare TV, Redeeming Features, Revelation Films, Title, Turquoise TT, Wood Carving Media and Yeti.
