Witnesses described a terrifying scene, saying a man fell from the ride.

A witness told local station WXIA that the man appeared in their souvenir photo when he fell.

"He was in our footage," the witness told WXIA. He fell three times and was hit by a car.

The hypercoaster stopped 200 feet from its departure, leaving passengers stranded until emergency crews evacuated them. Video from the scene shows people getting out of the car and descending a staircase above ground level.

"The park team and local authorities responded immediately and we are completing our investigation with local authorities," the Six Flags statement continued. "Out of respect for the family's privacy, we will not be sharing any further details at this time."

It was not immediately clear what caused the shutdown or when the ride would reopen.

According to the park's website, the roller coaster reaches speeds of 70 miles per hour with a 200-foot peak. It has a primary drop of 170 feet, a secondary drop of 175 feet, a spiral of 540 degrees and forces up to 4 Gs.
