Mick Gordon Plans to Perform His Upcoming Doom Concert on the Road
Award-winning composer and Skull Fragile Guitarist Mick Gordon has provided an update on his planned live performances of the Doom and Doom Eternal soundtracks, explaining in an interview with IGN at PAX Australia last weekend that his appearance as the headliner at UK's Radar Festival in 2027 is not a fluke.
"The two things we've announced are the headline show for Radar, which is set to take place on August 1, 2027," Gordon said. "It'll be me with a live band and orchestra playing music from Doom and Doom Eternal and some other stuff. Then a few days later I'll be in the Czech Republic playing the Brutal Assault festival, which is in a medieval castle, which is very metal. It's with bands like Children of Bodom, Knocked Loose, really like a Bodom, Knocked Loose. 25,000 incredible metal festival."
That all sounds great, but what if you're one of the millions of Doom fans who can't make it to the UK or Europe to catch either show? Well, the good news is that you may still have the chance to experience Mick's heavy metal glory on a live stage near you in the not too distant future.
"[After announcing the RADAR show] I immediately started getting offers from the European metal festival circuit," Gordon said. My agency and I have been talking about doing this for the next two years. There are a number of [events] around the world that we hope to do. Take this show [to]. So there will be a lot of news in this regard."
Gordon seems excited to perform Doom hits such as Rip & Tear, BFG Division and At Doom's Gate live in front of the festival crowd, promising an experience unlike any other video game soundtrack concert.
"For a long time I wanted to take what I find really exciting about video game music and marry it with what I find really exciting in a live rock and metal show," says Gordon. I know there are people who have done [live performances] where [the audience] sits and dresses up and listens to [their] favorite music played by an orchestra, and that's wonderful, don't get me wrong. But no one has done that where you have this giant circular rat pit with video game music.
"Through an incredible series of amazing and disturbing world circumstances, I found myself in the best position to [provide that experience]."
Meanwhile, you can get a fresh dose of Gordon's heavy metal beats on the Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 soundtrack, which releases on October 14 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version coming at a later date.
