Exclusive: Established streaming platform Plex has partnered with Fandango to allow US users to find showtimes and buy movie tickets while browsing and watching movies.
Founded in 2011, Plex offers an array of streaming options from free, ad-supported live and on-demand programming to transactional VOD. Discovery and social efforts have enabled the company to hold its own in a streaming world dominated by Roku, Amazon and other large-scale players. It operates in more than 180 countries and has more than 42 million monthly active users.
Fandango has branched out from its origins under current ownership by Versant, adding public broadcasting entertainment and other offerings, but remains the leading online seller of movie tickets. Especially since streaming has picked up again post-Covid, a number of broadcasters are looking to unite the small and big screens in different ways. Roku added a "Coming Soon" feature to its user experience in 2025, but stopped short of enabling ticket purchases. Watch on Deadline
Under the partnership, which was unveiled this week, Plex users in the US will see an option to buy Fandango tickets on the title pages of movies currently playing in theaters. This feature allows them to go to Fandango to find showtimes and buy tickets. Raadgham also includes direct attribution through measurement firm Kochava, which promises to give studios and advertisers greater visibility into how campaigns and audience engagement are converting into ticket sales.
As streaming has shifted more towards advertising over the past few years, there has also been an increased emphasis on results, with all major streamers except Apple TV making it a key strategic focus. In other words, knowing how advertising drives quick purchase decisions is even more of a brass ring than ever.
Like Plex, Letterboxd's social aspect is a key element of engagement. The company says more than 45 million users create watch lists, giving it an edge in terms of content discovery in a market where average viewers struggle to find favorite movies and series.
"Our vision is to make Plex a place where people can discover what to watch, no matter where that content lives. Fandango allows us to extend that experience to all theaters in the United States, giving fans an easy way to play once they've found the movie they want to see," Plex co-founder and chief product officer Scott Olchowski said in a statement.
"Plex has a unique view of what movie fans are actively considering, from what they're searching for to what they're watching across services," said Jerramy Hainline, Fandango's EVP. "By connecting Discovery Signals with Fandango Ticketing, we're making it easier for fans to turn that passion into a trip to the theater, while giving studios and advertisers a direct, measurable path to ticket sales."
