Hafez Studies Require Avoiding Hasty Interpretations
On the occasion of Hafez Commemoration Day, a lecture ceremony featuring Ebrahim Qeisari, man of letters, university professor, and Hafez scholar, was held at the Ezzatollah Negahban Hall of the Khuzestan Provincial Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.
According to the report of Aria Heritage reporter, on the same day as Hafez Commemoration Day on 20 Mehr 1405, a special ceremony was held in the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Khuzestan with the presence of managers, staff experts and a group of people interested in Persian culture and literature.
In this meeting, Ebrahim Kayseri analyzed the mystical and literary dimensions of some of the poems of Khwaja Shiraz.
In his research on Hafez, he emphasized the necessity of careful and careful reading of Hafez's poetry, especially in examining the concepts of love, randy, and the semantic difficulties of Hafez's sonnets.
Referring to a sonnet by Hafez with the information "Shahrahe Rahrovi Dar Sarzemani/Hemi said this riddle with Qarini", Qaysari pointed out: Understanding Hafez is not possible only by relying on the apparent meaning of words and verses, but one should also pay attention to the hidden layers of language, mystical terms, literary subtleties and the semantic contexts of the poem.
Referring to the link between love and randy in Hafez's sonnets, this university professor said: These two concepts have a fundamental place in Hafez's poetic world, and without knowing their meaning, it will be difficult to understand many of his sonnets.
He also explained by reciting the verse "Khe O Sufi Sharab Ange Shud Saaf/Khe Arbaini Arbaini Flour in the Glass/" Hafez creates meanings by using symbolic and sometimes double-edged language that prompts the reader to reflect and provides the possibility of various interpretations.
Qaysari also pointed out the differences in versions, readings and interpretive difficulties in reviewing the controversial verses of Hafez and said: The importance of this approach is that the interpretation of a verse sometimes depends on the exact knowledge of a word or combination, and the smallest difference in the reading of the text can lead to a different understanding of its meaning. From this point of view, hafez research requires linguistic precision, literary awareness and avoiding hasty interpretations.
This scholar of Hafez believes that knowing Hafez is not only achieved by admiring the beauty of his poetry but also by reflecting on the words, examining the semantic contexts and weighing different interpretations.
He considered Hafez to be more than an eloquent poet and a possessor of literary skills and stated: Hafez has done a great service to Iranian culture through mystical language.
Kayseri also emphasized that long discussions about word differences should not distract us from the main purpose of the poem.
This university professor explained in this regard: the differences between different versions and interpretations are valuable when they lead to a better understanding of the poem, rather than becoming the ultimate goal of research.
At the end of this ceremony, Ebrahim Kaysari answered the questions of several people in the audience about the tribute to Hafez, how to know Hafez and the need to know this poet.
