US Treasury Removes Venezuela's National Assembly President from Blacklist

Removing a person's name from the OFAC list does not automatically lift other restrictions. For example, this action does not necessarily mean lifting the visa ban for travel to the United States or transit through the country.

After removing the name of the interim president of Venezuela from the black list, the US Department of Treasury has now removed the name of the Speaker of the National Assembly of this country from this list.

According to Ambassador Arjan, citing Ambassador Arjan, the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) attached to the Ministry of Treasury announced that the name of Jorge Rodriguez was removed from the sanctioned list, but did not explain the reasons for this decision.

This decision means that Jorge Rodríguez, one of the main figures at the top of power in Venezuela, can once again have access to the US financial system.

Ofek is an institution that is responsible for reviewing and deciding whether to include the names of individuals, institutions or companies in the "black list" of the US Treasury Department or to remove their names from this list.

The removal of a person's name from OFAC's list does not automatically mean the removal of other restrictions; For example, this action does not necessarily mean lifting the ban on issuing visas for travel to the United States or crossing the country's territory.

Jorge Rodríguez was included in OFAC's list in September 2018.

His sister, Delsey Rodríguez, the interim president of Venezuela, was also removed from OFAC's list on April 1, 2026 (April 12, 1405). This happened just three months after the illegal kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores. The two are now awaiting trial in New York.

Venezuela's National Assembly, whose composition has been contested by Maduro's supporters, has played a key role in working to open Venezuela's oil sector to Washington.

Maduro was against putting Venezuela and its resources under US domination. Before his abduction, he had warned that Washington was seeking to dominate the country's oil resources.
