FIFA and Trump's fake prize on the verge of destruction

FIFA is considering canceling the controversial peace prize that Donald Trump received last year at the 2026 World Cup draw.

According to Sport Se, the International Football Federation (FIFA) is considering the possibility of canceling the "Peace Prize"; An award that has been accompanied by controversies since its first edition was introduced and awarded. US President Donald Trump was the first winner of this award and received it at the World Cup draw held in Washington last December.

According to TalkSport, it was decided at Thursday's meeting of the FIFA Council in Zurich that from now on, the Committee on Social Responsibility of Football will be responsible for reviewing and deciding on the candidates' compliance with the criteria set for this annual award.

Meanwhile, Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, presented the Peace Prize to Trump before the start of the 2026 World Cup; An action that was done without receiving the official approval of the FIFA Council, as the highest decision-making body of this organization.

Under the new decision-making mechanism, former Argentina and Inter Milan defender Javier Zanetti will chair a 22-member committee that will consider whether the Peace Prize should continue to operate. This assessment may lead to a ban on donating it to politicians if the award continues.

However, reports indicate that at the recent meeting, the idea of awarding the peace prize was not completely abandoned, and despite doubts about its future, there is still a possibility that the plan will continue. A final decision is expected to be made in December during a meeting of the Social Responsibility Committee at the same time as the next FIFA Council meeting in Doha.

Debbie Hewitt, the vice-president of FIFA and the head of the English Football Association, explained to reporters about the duties of this committee: "It was decided that the peace award will be reviewed and its case referred to the social committee. One of the controversial issues was whether such an award should have been created in the first place. How was the decision to grant it made? And should this award be given again? The social committee will answer these questions."

FIFA has previously stated that the purpose of creating this annual award is to "celebrate individuals who have taken exceptional and exceptional actions to promote peace" and also to embody the concept of "uniting people around the world". Of course, with these definitions, donating it to Donald Trump was a strange and unacceptable decision.
