2018, the program is held simultaneously with the week of physical education in West Azerbaijan

Urmia - The general director of sports and youth of West Azerbaijan said: On the occasion of the week of physical training, 1,388 sports programs will be held in the province.

According to Mehr reporter, Sajjad Bairami, in a press conference with the media before noon on Saturday, referring to the slogan of the 1405 physical education and sports week entitled "Exercise, the sacrifice of Iran", stated that a total of 1,388 programs have been planned for this week, with the participation of the sports and youth departments of the cities, sports boards, clubs and other related groups at the provincial level.

He added: Out of the total number of planned programs, 245 titles are dedicated to competitions and championship sports, 175 titles to general sports and 273 titles to women's field programs.

Birami said: Also, 21 titles of the program in the field of rural sports, 105 titles in the cultural sector and 347 titles will be held with the participation of other executive bodies related to the field of sports.

The opening of eight sports spaces during the week of physical education

Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan, referring to the opening of sports projects at the same time as the week of physical education and sports, stated: During these days, eight sports projects, including seven outdoor sports spaces and one indoor sports space, will be put into operation.

Stating that the total area of these projects is about 16,500 square meters, he added: One of the flagship projects that can be opened is the outdoor sports space in Khalifan district of Mahabad city with an area of 10,000 square meters, which has been implemented in line with the development of sports facilities in rural areas and the realization of a balanced distribution of infrastructure in the province.

Birami pointed out: these eight projects will be put into operation in the cities of Urmia, Mahabad, Chaharborj and Piranshahr.

Referring to the process of completing other sports plans in the province, he said: Projects that have a physical progress of over 90% will be put into operation in the Fajr decade if the implementation stages are completed.

Referring to the capacity of West Azerbaijan in hosting sports competitions, he added: so far, 15 international events with the participation of athletes from 66 countries and the participation of 2,700 foreign athletes have been held in the province.

Birami continued: In the field of sports competitions, 668 provincial competitions have been held and the province has also hosted 176 competitions with the participation of about 70 thousand people from all over the country.

239 active sports projects in West Azerbaijan

Referring to the development process of sports infrastructure in the province, he said: Currently, 239 sports projects are active in the province, 72 of which are in the field of indoor spaces, and the total infrastructure of the projects under implementation is estimated to be around 197 thousand square meters.

Emphasizing the need to use the capacity of the private sector in the development of sports infrastructure, Bairami added: Investment calls have been published for 138 sports projects and 31 projects are under construction with the participation of the private sector.

Referring to the projects opened in the last two years, he said: During this period, 74 sports spaces, including indoor and outdoor spaces, with a credit of about 320 billion Tomans have been put into operation.

The Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan also announced the implementation of new plans to increase the province's sports facilities per capita and emphasized the need to accelerate the completion of half-finished projects and provide more people access to sports facilities.

Winning 556 national medals in women's sports

Referring to the achievements of women's sports in the province, Birami said: West Azerbaijan female athletes have won 556 medals in national competitions, and in this sector, 70 national team camps have been hosted in the province.

He added: 236 female athletes of the province have been invited to the national teams, and supporting talented athletes, strengthening the presence of women in championship competitions and developing the required infrastructure are among the axes of activity in this field.

Winning seven medals in Nagoya competitions

In another part of his speech, the Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan mentioned the performance of the athletes of the province in the Nagoya competitions and said: 13 athletes and four members of the technical staff from the province participated in these competitions and the athletes of the province won medals in seven sports.

He added: The result of this participation was winning seven medals including three gold, one silver and three bronze.

Referring to the sports capacities of West Azerbaijan, Birami pointed out: development of infrastructure, support of sports talents, increase in hosting of national and international competitions and strengthening of public sports will provide the basis for improving the status of the province in the sports of the country.
