EXCLUSIVE: Twenty-two years after Frasier ended, Kelsey Grammer is set to star in another potential NBC series, this time a drama. Grammer is headlining and executive producing Pops, which is currently in development at the network. It was written by longtime Chicago Mod writer Danny Weiss.

In Pops, Grammer plays the title character, a man who has aged out of a successful career and in desperate need of a fresh start, jumps into the chaotic world of emergency medicine alongside first responders half his age.

The project is based on the true life story of Ed Levin, a Maryland resident who became a volunteer EMT in his 60s after a successful career in advertising. Called "Pop" by his younger colleagues, he spent 12 years as an EMT before returning last fall at age 76. Pops draws parallels with ABC's The Rookie, about the LAPD's oldest rookie, which was also based on a real person who changes careers in middle age. It also shares similarities with the CBS sitcom Carol's Second Act, starring Kelsey Back To Your, Patricia Heaton, as a divorced mother with grown children who go to medical school and a 50-year-old medical intern. Weiss and Levine produce Pops alongside Grammer and Jordan McMahon through Grammer's Grammnet NH Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment. Universal Television, part of the Universal Studios Group, is the studio.

Grammer has appeared in comedy and drama throughout his career. His hour-long series credits include Starz's Boss and Amazon's The Last Tycoon. At NBC, she reunites with her Frasier co-star David Hyde Pierce, who is starring in a multi-camera comedy in development.

Grammer has been a regular on NBC for more than two decades, playing psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane on three episodes of Cheers, the spinoff Frasier, and Wings. The role, which he recently revisited for Paramount+'s revival of Frasier, earned him four of his five Emmys.

Grammer will appear in the next film, Avengers: Doomsday, due out in December, playing the MCU's Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy.

Through Grammnet NH Productions, Grammer has produced series such as Medium and The Game. He is repped by UTA and Vault Entertainment.
