Setting a new record in the water inlet of Bukan Dam / The status of water resources has changed

While the volume of dam storage is very different compared to last year, officials emphasized the importance of proper management of consumption and protection of resources.

Abbas Abbasi, explaining the latest status of the reservoir of Shahid Kazemi Bukan dam, stated: 316 million cubic meters of water are stored in this dam, of which 12 million cubic meters entered the reservoir in the new water year. Comparing the current situation of the reservoir with the same period last year, he added: At the same time last year, the volume of water stored in the dam was only 64.9 million cubic meters, and no water inflow into the reservoir was recorded. A statistic that indicates a significant difference in the state of reserves in two periods of time. Director of Water Resources Affairs, Bukan, referring to the status of water inflow to Shahid Kazemi Dam, said: Currently, the flow rate of water inflow into the reservoir has reached 5.35 cubic meters per second. The increase in water inflow is due to the release of water from Chiragwais Dam in Saqqez, which is located upstream of Shahid Kazemi Dam. Abbasi continued: The level of Shahid Kazemi Dam lake has now reached 1,409.58 meters, while this indicator was around 1,397 meters in the same period last year.

628% increase in water intake in the last water year

Referring to the changes in the water inflow into the reservoir in the last water year, the Director of Bukan Water Resources said: From the beginning of Mehr 1404 to the beginning of Mehr 1405, a total of about 2.2 billion cubic meters of water entered the Shahid Kazemi Dam of Bukan, which shows an increase of 628% compared to the 303 million cubic meters of input in the previous water year. According to a report that was published in February 1404, the rains of 45 days before that had added about 59 million cubic meters to the reservoir of Shahid Kazemi Dam; An issue that was raised at that time as an effective factor in the relative improvement of the water resources situation in the region.

The state of reserves of dams in West Azerbaijan

Shahid Kazemi Bukan Dam is one of the most important reservoirs for supplying and regulating water resources in West Azerbaijan. This dam, which is also known as the Bukan Dam, was built on the Zarinerood River and plays a role in providing drinking water, agricultural needs and water resources management in the basin. Its catchment area is about 650 square kilometers and includes parts of West Azerbaijan and Kurdistan. According to the statistics announced by the CEO of the West Azerbaijan Regional Water Company, on 29 September 1405, the water storage volume of 17 reservoir dams in operation in the province reached 1,286 million cubic meters. This amount was equivalent to about 50% of the storage capacity of the reservoirs at the normal level and compared to the same period of the previous year, it was 63% more. The total capacity of these reservoirs in the normal level is about 2 billion and 587 million cubic meters. Majid Rostagari, CEO of the West Azerbaijan Regional Water Company, in the same report, listed the Shahid Kazemi Bukan, Shaherchai, Mahabad and Agchai dams as the most important storage capacities of the province's water resources and emphasized the importance of proper management of reserves and the participation of people and users in the optimal use of water.

Buchan Dam; One of the important sources of water supply in the region

Shahid Kazemi Bukan dam with a nominal capacity of about 800 million cubic meters is built on Zarinerood. Zarinerud, one of the important rivers of West Azerbaijan, originates from the highlands of Kurdistan and after passing through different regions, it flows into Lake Urmia. The importance of this dam is not limited only to the amount of its water storage; The management of the reservoir's input and output, provision of drinking and agricultural needs, compliance with environmental water rights and the state of rainfall in the catchment area are among the factors affecting the stability of the region's water resources. The storage record of 316 million cubic meters at the beginning of the new water year, compared to 64.9 million cubic meters in the same period last year, indicates the improvement of the reservoir's condition at this point. However, the continuation of this situation will depend on the amount of rainfall, the flow of rivers and the way water resources are managed in the coming months.
