Film Starring The Walking Dead Actor Recreates Resident Evil 7's Scariest Scene
The Resident Evil franchise is having a stellar year. From the release of Resident Evil Requiem, now one of the leading contenders for Game of the Year, to Zach Cregger's new feature film, which has broken box office records
The Resident Evil series is having a brilliant year; From the release of the Resident Evil Requiem game, which is now one of the main contenders for the title of the best game of the year, to the new Zack Kerger movie, which has broken sales records at the box office.
The new film from the director, who previously made Weapons, became the most acclaimed film adaptation of a video game. However, some fans were unhappy with the film's lack of even a mention of popular characters from the Resident Evil games, as well as the neglect of the series' wider story. Now it seems they finally got what they wanted.
Chandler Riggs, the actor who played Carl Grimes on AMC's The Walking Dead for eight seasons, has now released a fan-made short film based on Resident Evil 7. The 20-minute work, called Biohazard, has chosen the subtitle of the game as its main name, and according to Riggs, it is the result of his personal interest in the series. In this film, he not only portrays the character of Ethan Winters from the new Resident Evil games, but also recreates some of the most terrifying moments of the game; including the terrifying dinner scene with the Baker family and the battle with Boss in the garage. You can watch this short film below:
In the official description of this short film, the production group has announced that the production of Biohazard was made with the help of the Tampa film set; An organization that presents Florida as a suitable, supportive and experienced environment for the production of cinematic works.
To recreate the Baker family home featured in Capcom's game, the production team repurposed Arturo Fuente's original cigar factory. Relying on realistic set design, practical special effects, physical stunts and limited use of computer visual effects, they tried to recreate the violent and scary atmosphere of the game as closely as possible. In addition, Greg Nicotero, who previously worked with Riggs on The Walking Dead, lent his special effects equipment to the crew.
Initial reactions to Biohazard have been promising, with the short film garnering over 23,000 views in just the first two hours of its release. Fans have also welcomed it widely and in addition to Riggs' performance as Ethan Winters, they have also praised the performance of other actors; Especially Jason Douglas who plays Jack Baker.
One of the users in the comments section, referring to his long history of following this collection, said:
Let me tell you this; I've been a fan of Resident Evil since 1996, and this one really turned out great. You've done a better tribute to the series than anything I've ever seen. Well done!
Another user praised the movie and wrote:
This work is actually a love letter to the movie industry and the Resident Evil series. The family dinner scene has been perfectly recreated!
However, the most frequent reaction from fans concerns the possibility of Riggs appearing in a feature film based on Resident Evil. Many of them believe that he would be the right choice to play the role of Ethan Winters in a full movie adaptation.
Perhaps the most interesting reaction to the movie is the comment of a user who pointed out the unexpected connection between the two actors of The Walking Dead world and Resident Evil movies. He wrote in a humorous tone:
It's weird that you and the guy who shot you in the eye were both in the Resident Evil movies this year!
For fans who don't know, Austin Abrams previously played the role of Ron Anderson on The Walking Dead. Abrams is now in Resident Evil directed by Zack Kerger, and this issue has created an interesting connection between the actors of these two works.
