Russian Senator: Lifting Sanctions on Russia Is the Failure of Sanctions Rhetoric

A Russian senator said the temporary lifting of US sanctions on Russian diesel exports reflects economic realities overcoming sanctions rhetoric.

A Russian senator assessed the temporary lifting of US sanctions against Russia's diesel exports as a victory of economic realities over sanctions rhetoric.

According to Ambassador Arjan Yelena Perminova, Vice-Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, in an interview with RIA Novosti, Moscow and Washington agreed on the supply of diesel fuel as a sign of the superiority of economic realities and energy security over sanctions rhetoric.

This Russian official pointed out that the lifting of the embargo on Russian diesel can bring more income to the country, adding: expanding the export of oil products will provide Russia with the possibility of earning billions of dollars in additional income; Resources that can be used for domestic investment, infrastructure renovation and support for domestic enterprises.

Criticizing the approach of the European authorities, Perminova stated that the agreement between Moscow and Washington was reached without the participation of Brussels and is not in line with the interests of the European authorities.

He said: European elites have damaged their industries and deprived their citizens of access to cheap energy sources by imposing sanctions packages in the past years.

Perminova added: Europeans are now witnessing with surprise that the main actors are shaping a pragmatic and beneficial dialogue without their participation. This is a geopolitical and hard lesson for Europeans who have also lost what remains of their economic sovereignty.
