Exclusive: Hearst UK and Canada's Super Channels are looking for Missing Pieces.
A 20-episode true crime series from Manitoba, Canada-based Black Watch Entertainment has been greenlit, consisting of two 10-episode seasons filmed back-to-back. ITV Studios is attached as the international distributor.
Each hour-long episode recreates a murder using a gruesome clue: a severed limb, torso or other dismembered body part. It shows how investigators race to identify the victim and figure out what happened, using DNA evidence, missing persons reports, digital tracking and forensic analysis. Each story is also told through the participation of investigators, witnesses, family members and experts close to each case, from discovery to justice. Watch on Deadline
Missing Pieces is eligible for a provincial tax credit of up to 65%, with no Canadian content (CanCon) required, as Manitoba remains a strong option for international productions in Canada.
Additionally, since Blackwatch founder Megan Duffy is the creator, the production also qualifies for a 25 percent federal tax incentive.
"We're always looking for new ways to tell true crime stories, and Missing Pieces offers a truly unique perspective. Each case begins with a piece of a victim, and we follow investigators as they work backwards to uncover what happened, identify the victim, and ultimately find the person responsible," Duffy said.
Duffy is executive producing Black Watch, and Diana Carter stars in the same role for Hearst alongside Mark Marabella. Kim Ball is in charge of Super Channel production and Alison Reed serves as the show's host.
Black Watch, founded in 2010, has credits including Superchannel and ITV's Finally Caught and Secrets, Lies and DNA Ties. Lifetime network The Woman With Red Lipstick, I Have to Kill My Neighbor and Match, Meet Murder; CBC network's moral damages: Art Jordan Van Sewell; and MarVista Entertainment's Snowmance.
