President of Belarus addressed to Trump: Do not assign tasks to Ukraine
Lukashenko noted that Zelenskiy had previously promised to remain in office for only one term, and said he should honor that commitment and give the people a chance to vote.
The President of Belarus said on Friday that US President Donald Trump should not decide who should lead Ukraine, adding that the decision rests with the people of Ukraine.
According to Ambassador Arjan, Trump has repeatedly called for a change of leadership in Kiev and accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of missing several opportunities to end the war. In this regard, Alexander Lukashenko answered a question about the possibility of establishing peace during Zelensky's presidency in a conversation with reporters.
According to Ambassador Arjan Belta, Lukashenko said: "This issue is not related to Trump. "It is the people of Ukraine who will decide who will be the president of Ukraine."
Lukashenko noted that Zelenskiy had previously promised to remain in office for only one term, and said he should honor that commitment and give the people a chance to vote.
He said: "Promises must be fulfilled. In this sense, Trump is right: if you make a promise, you have to keep it, but you don't need to dictate the terms. "Trump should not assign tasks to Ukraine."
Lukashenko also said that there may be peace in Ukraine this year or next year. He added that Moscow and Kyiv are interested in ending the war because of the consequences for both countries.
He said: "Peace will be established. If it doesn't happen this year, it will happen next year. I am absolutely sure of this."
Lukashenko, a key ally of Moscow, said Russia has more military and economic resources and can continue the war for a long time, but added that the war would impose a heavy cost on the Russian economy.
He said: "The Russians understand this issue; They are ready for peace."
The president of Belarus also warned: "As for the Ukrainians, if they do not try to reach a peace agreement this year, the situation will be more difficult for them next year, and finally it may become impossible to reach peace."
Lukashenko added: "The Americans are now warning the Russians that if they do not reach an agreement with Ukraine, next year the situation will be even worse. "If you make peace with the Ukrainians now, we will lift the sanctions and do other things, but next year, even if you take all of Ukraine, you will still be under these sanctions."
The Belarusian leader said: "The Americans are powerful now. They believe that no force can stop them. They are wrong. God sees and will strike them hard."
He continued: "They should be more cautious. There are many forces in nature that can put the powerful of this world in their place.
The President of Belarus predicted that the conflict in Ukraine will soon come to a definitive end and expressed confidence that peace will be achieved this year or next.
According to Ambassador Arjan, he added that Russia has more military superiority and flexibility than Ukraine, and that Moscow is really ready for a peaceful agreement.
He also asked Volodymyr Zelensky to fulfill his political promises and hold elections. He pointed to his agreement with Donald Trump, who renewed his criticism of Zelensky today. Zelenskiy's term as president legally ended on May 20, 2024, but elections were postponed due to martial law and popular mobilization.
