The White House has hit back at The Chicks frontwoman Natalie Means, calling her a "despicable nobody" with a "brain the size of a peanut" after the singer took aim at US President Donald Trump.
The backlash came after Means — who kicked off the Chicks' anniversary "Taking the Long Way" tour in Manhattan this week with bandmates Emily Strayer and Marty Maguire — resurrected an infamous criticism of former President George W. Bush that sparked a firestorm more than two decades ago, but he suggested Trump was being compared to Bush this time.

According to Billboard, Means declared during the show that he would "never" give in to the "shut up and sing" band.
"We thought that was the worst that could happen," he said, referring to his 2003 comments about Bush. "Now I'm going to give George (W) Bush a big wet kiss," he laughed. Because now we are ashamed that the president of the United States is from the United States.
The comment was a direct reference to his 2003 remarks about Bush, which drew backlash at the time: "Just know, we don't want this war, this violence. And we're ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas."
These comments brought different reactions in social networks.

In May, Maines sparked controversy after posting an expletive-laden rant targeting Trump and accusing the president of destroying democracy in an Instagram post.
"Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes. This scumbag is using your gas money to pay the rebels. But don't worry about it, I'm sure sending a selfie will solve everything."
He added: "My last post calling her a nasty slut has been deleted. We'll see how long this one lasts. Repost and help keep the message alive."
The White House responded with the same statement it made about the latest Maines investigation, noting, "Natalie Maines is an abomination who clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted her brain the size of a peanut."
