James McAvoy is candid about what it was like filming "Band of Brothers" and why it wasn't his best experience on a set.
During a recent appearance on "With What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," the actor was asked to weigh in on his experience on various projects, and when shown footage of the show's cast, said he was harassed during filming.
“On my first day on set, there were a lot of actors,” he began. "It was one of those scenes where everyone was in it, and we're all in a bar, and I had a scene. And all these guys were in it for nine months, 10 months, and they get a line one episode and a line 10 episodes later. They were all pissed off. I come in for one episode, and I have an arc and scenes of lines."
When a photo showing many of his co-stars on the show flashed on the screen, McAvoy got up to take a closer look and confirmed that a certain actor was in the photo.
Debi Mazar says that after she returned from the birth of her second daughter, the "protectors" "became toxic".
"So one of the kids in that picture decided to bully me — on my first day out of acting school as a professional actor," she said. He made him and his friends stand there just pointing at me and laughing at me for three minutes.
While not named, the photo features Donnie Wahlberg, Kirk Acevedo, Scott Grimes, Neal McDonough, Adam James, Frank John Hughes, Philip Barantini and Ross McCall.
The "X-Men: First Class" star added that not everyone on set took part in the bullying, saying that Dexter Fletcher and Robin Ling "knocked me out, and they were like, 'Come on, man.'

He went on to say that he would rate the overall experience on the show a 9 out of 10, but noted, "That day felt like a day."
"Band of Brothers" is a 10-episode miniseries that aired on HBO in 2001 and tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. The series' storyline was based on interviews with actual survivors of Easy Company, in addition to letters and journals of actual soldiers.
After his one-episode run on the show, McAvoy rose to fame with roles in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Wanted, Atonement, and the X-Men series.
Speaking on the Sad Sad Confused podcast in September 2024 about what it was like to play X-Men, McAvoy admitted that when he was first approached about playing the project, he and his wife were taking some time off after the birth of their first child.
While he said they were "not penniless" and not in debt, he admitted they had "almost nothing. In the bank" and he needed to get back to work. His top priority was staying close to home to still be there for his son, which, along with the script, was a big plus when he heard about "X-Men: First Class."
"There's only 60 pages of it now and I feel like it's great that Jane Goldman has done a great job," he said of the script. It's good, but it's incomplete, I don't really know where it's going, but I thought it was a three-picture deal, they pay good money, it's 40 minutes from my front door, I'm a fan of the original material, I'm getting young Charles Xavier, and I thought it was a no-brainer. So my agent called me and he said, "What do you think?" And I was like, "This is genius, we're doing it."
