According to Mehr reporter, today, Saturday, 25th of Mehr 1405, a press conference of the National Date Association of Iran was held on the occasion of the National Day of Dates at the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture of Iran.
Behnam Saeedi, Member of Parliament and member of the Agriculture, Water, Natural Resources and Environment Commission, in this meeting with the presence of date activists, described the serious challenges faced by date producers, criticizing last year's dates remaining in cold storage, dealers' control over pricing and lack of sufficient support from the custodians.
The representative of the Islamic Council said: Unfortunately, the expectations of the hardworking farmer are not met; A part of last year's product still remains in the cold storages, which shows inefficiency in decisions. A fair share of the final value of the product does not reach the farmer and there is a big gap between the purchase price from the producer and the final market price.
He added: Today, pricing in our region is done by brokers who sit together and determine the purchase rate. Farmers face major challenges due to lack of access to main markets, lack of efficient logistics and transportation, weakness in marketing and macro decisions. Despite the large size and unique capacities of the south of Kerman, there is not even a date processing factory in this area, and the view of this strategic product remains at the level of raw sales.
The representative of the Parliament's Agriculture Commission openly criticized the performance of the Kerman Chamber of Commerce and stated: This chamber had the weakest performance in the south of Kerman province and the presence of the chamber in this region is practically zero. For example, the private sector investment conference in southern Kerman agriculture, which was supposed to be held, has not yet been implemented after three years and several meetings and interviews. Where is the position of supporting the private sector and the farmer? What measures have been taken in the field of branding unique Jiroft dates and global standards?
Saidi considered the duty of the farmer to be only work and effort in the agricultural land and emphasized: marketing, preventing the product from remaining on the ground, facilitating export, proper pricing, accurate storage, branding, compliance with standards and reducing waste are the duties of the trustees and anyone who fails should be held accountable.
In the end, this House of Mellat representative, referring to the conditions of the economic war and the enemy's focus on economic pressure, called for serious action in commercial and agricultural diplomacy and clarified: Export is not the only duty of a businessman; Our business and economic advisors in different countries should be the frontline soldiers of farmers' defense, recognize the challenges and think of solutions for the market of agricultural products, especially dates.
