The Asus ROG Ally X20 handheld gaming PC has officially launched and orders are now shipping

The most powerful version 2.0 of the Ryzen-based handheld game.

ASUS Xbox ROG Ally X20 has just been officially released. Best Buy has it in stock now for $1,299.99 shipped immediately. The X20 first went up for pre-order in the US back in August, and you can only get it from two places: Best Buy and the ASUS eShop. We managed to get our hands on one early, and IGN's Jackie Thomas gave it a positive review.

ASUS Xbox ROG Ally X20 is shipping

The Xbox Ally X20's upgrade over its predecessor, the Xbox Ally X, is huge:

New transparent black skin with golden menu buttons

7.4 inch OLED screen with 1400 nit brightness

Support for DisplayPort 2.1 on the second USB-C port

TMR drift resistant joysticks (better than hall effect) and domed ABXY buttons

Pull-out rotary D-pad that switches between 4-way or 8-way modes

Redesign of tactile stimuli with tactile feedback

The Xbox Ally X20 is still one of the most powerful handheld gaming PCs

Internally, the Xbox Ally X20 is almost identical to the Xbox Ally X. Like its predecessor, the X20 is equipped with the latest generation AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB SSD. It's the most powerful Ryzen-based handset out there, significantly outperforming the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, Z2 A, Z2 Go, and every other variant. It runs the Windows operating system but with the Xbox user interface. If you really want to, you can install the Steam OS yourself and turn it into a Steam Deck, but the Xbox integration is arguably just as good, if not better. In fact, IGN's Jackie Thomas recommends using Xbox Ally (and Ally X) from Steam Deck.

Best Buy is offering a bigger discount than usual on the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X handheld gaming PC. Instead of paying $1,000 retail, you can pay $789.99 for a "fair condition" model. I personally recommend getting one in "excellent condition" for $849.99. These are Geek Squad certified pre-owned units that include a 15-day return policy. Better graded "Excellent Condition" units are in new condition, both functionally and cosmetically with very little usage time. They may also include most or all of their original warranty.
