WoW Forever Beta Surpasses 1 Million Characters Created

It's no secret that World of Warcraft Forever has been hugely popular since entering its beta last month, but now over 1 million characters have been created.
According to classicplus.io, a community website that takes snapshots of WoW Forever data, 1,003,125 characters have been created in Classic Plus mode so far. That's a lot, considering you need access to the beta to even create a character, which is primarily done by purchasing the $30 Skyborne bundle.
But even though most people have to buy access to the Skyborne race to play the beta, Skyborne isn't the most popular race in either faction. For both Alliance and Horde players, fantasy blue elves represent only 18.7% of characters created. Instead, for Alliance players, Humans are much more popular at 32.3%, while Horde players seem to prefer Undead characters at 33.5% of the population.
It's important to remember that while 1 million characters might not seem like much in a game that had 12 million players 16 years ago, WoW Forever hasn't even launched yet. The full game won't be released until November 4th, and anyone playing the beta now only has access to limited parts of the world. At the time of this writing, the level cap in the beta is level 30, and characters will be removed next month when the game is fully released.
Therefore, it is remarkable that so many people are playing the game now, knowing that everything they earn in this game will be gone in less than a month. It's a good omen for Blizzard, and shows that Forever will be very popular when it comes out, even if it has to go head-to-head with Grand Theft Auto 6, which comes out two weeks later - although I imagine there won't be much crossover between the two games.
Even when WoW Forever first entered beta last month, Blizzard developers were shocked by its popularity. One developer even said that the beta showed the "stupidest numbers" they'd ever seen. However, Forever is not free of its own controversies. Blizzard has trashed players' names, leading some to think they are being unfairly targeted. And Blizzard is also cracking down on gold sales, leading to WoW streamers being caught in the crossfire. But, Blizzard has also added the popular "Kyle's Gone Missing" quest, even though it wasn't added until Burning Crusade, and everyone seems to love it.
