The next season of True Detective is taking shape.

Antonio Banderas has joined the cast of the fifth season of the HBO anthology drama series. It comes after Nicolas Cage confirmed his arrival at New York Comic-Con last week, more than a year after it was revealed the Pig star was in talks.

Set to begin production in 2027, the series will be helmed by showrunner Jesus Lopez, who helmed the fourth season of Night Country.

Details about the season are few, but Cage will star as Henry Logan and Pain and Glory star Banderas will star as Ray Garcia. The film is set in Jamaica Bay, New York. Watch Deadline News Mark Ruffalo hasn't really forgiven Gwynne Newsom for supporting the Paramount-WBD merger. This could be a 2028 problem for a potential POTUS challenger.

The Night Country series in Alaska with Jodie Foster and Callie Reyes, the third season in the Ozarks with Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff, the second season in California with Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams and the first season in Louisiana with Matthew McConaughey and Wood McConaughey.

Lopez serves as writer, director and showrunner and will executive produce alongside Cage, Banderas, Harrelson, McConaughey, Daniel Zelman, Mary Jo Winkler, Kathleen McCaffrey, Steve Gulin, Richard Brown, Nick Pizzolatto and Cary Joji Fukunaga.

"Isa has a lot to say, not unlike him about Night Country," HBO drama series boss Francesca told Deadline last year. It's a different environment but just as powerful."

Lopez also previously said that there will be "significant connections" between everything that happened in Alaska and what happens in the new season. "It's a new story, new characters, everything," he told the New York Post.

Cage is repped by WME, Stride Management and attorney Patrick Knapp, and Banderas is repped by NuCo Media Group and Greenberg Glusker.

I'd love to see Elizabeth Berkley or Heather Locklear in it. We need more comebacks like Pamela Anderson two years ago.
