Spokesperson for Reform Front on Assassination Attempt Against Abbas Akhoundi: The Detained Individual Said, 'We Are a Group of Five or Six People Seeking to Eliminate Several Figures. Nothing Happened to Mr. Akhoundi'

Reform Front spokesperson said: Library security staff notice the incident through surveillance cameras and head to the scene. The individual was eventually handed over to law enforcement. Apparently, the person brazenly stated, 'We are a group of five or six people and are looking to eliminate several individuals.'

The spokesman of the Reform Front explained the details of the arrest of the person who planned to assassinate Abbas Akhundi.

About the news of the assassination attempt, Javad Imam told Abbas Akhundi: "On Tuesday, after the meeting of the Baran Foundation, the person who had been following Mr. Akhundi for some time will appear at the place." This person was previously identified in the places where Mr. Akhundi used to travel, including the university. Apparently, he had come to the place of the Baran Foundation meeting the day before and identified it. Before Mr. Akhundi got into his car that was parked in the parking lot, this person entered the car and threatened the driver. Meanwhile, the driver gets out of the car and that person also moves towards him and a physical conflict occurs between them. Fortunately, Mr. Akhundi's driver manages to take the weapon from him.

He added: The security agents of the library noticed this happening through the cameras and came to the place. Finally, the mentioned person is handed over to the police. Apparently, this person rudely said that we are a group of five or six people and we are looking to remove a number of people; People who are considered prominent personalities of the country and valuable assets of Iran and society and are respected by the people. He has said that they will do it, and he has confidently stated that if they don't succeed today, other people will step in and do it.

Imam also said: It seems that considering the behavior of arbitrary forces and the actions that some of them take under the name of "arbitrary fire" behavior, the events that we are witnessing these days are worrying. Including illegal gatherings in front of Mr. Zarif's office or Dr. Rouhani's house, as well as slogans, accusations and obscenities raised against some personalities of this country. It seems that these people are strengthened from somewhere; Otherwise, dealing with such behaviors is one of the duties and missions of security agencies. Also, considering that the prosecutor, as the public prosecutor, even reacts to some behavior of political currents, it is surprising why these obvious illegalities are not dealt with?!

The CEO of Baran Foundation noted: If God forbid these events continue, I think these people are looking to create chaos and chaos in the country. Definitely, the consequences of these actions will affect the government, the system and the security and law enforcement agencies, and will disturb the peace of the people. In any case, these behaviors create a heavy psychological cost for the society. We hope that the responsible institutions will fulfill their legal duties as soon as possible and provide a detailed report to the society about this incident.

Referring to the latest state of health of Abbas Akhundi, the Imam reminded: Alhamdulillah, nothing happened to him and the attacker along with his weapon has been handed over to the police. It seems that the goal of that person is not only the physical removal of Mr. Akhundi, but his goal is to remove reformist figures and other prominent personalities who are seeking to solve the concerns that the country is facing today and who have critical views and according to their background, knowledge, mastery and compassion for the country, they put forward their views in the public arena and provide them to the relevant authorities. They hope that these pressures and imposed attacks will not lead to the igniting of war. In fact, these people are against war and any escalation of tension and conflict.
