The UK has committed to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, but currently 80% of its heating demand is met by fossil fuels. Octopus Energy, the country's largest energy supplier, hopes to accelerate the transition to cleaner heating. TJ Root, Octopus heat pump program manager, says: "In the UK, our houses are really old, which is part of the appeal. "But those bigger, older houses need more heat." According to the company, in 2026 Octopus will release the Cozy 12, its most powerful smart heat pump system to date, which runs on electricity and is specifically designed to heat older, older homes up to four times more efficiently than a boiler.
