Today, Thursday, October 23, corresponding to October 15, 2026, is International Rural Women's Day.

According to Ambassador Arjan, the United Nations has named the slogan of this day as rural farmer women, guardians of mother nature. Of course, this organization previously named 2026 as the International Year of Women Farmers to emphasize the importance of this issue. This slogan emphasizes the role of women farmers in protecting the environment, protecting the environment, preserving biodiversity, preserving seeds, managing water resources and rehabilitating degraded lands.

In this regard, the former Director General of the Rural and Nomadic Women's Agricultural Development Office of the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad told Ambassador Arjan: The issue of not seeing the identity of female farmers is a widespread issue all over the world. This naming has been done with the aim of drawing more attention to women farmers this year so that their empowerment programs are developed, more training is provided, the media pays more attention to these women, more festivals are given to them and global movements are formed in this field.

Maryam Tahmasabi, stating that the issue of women farmers in all countries of the world has not been given enough attention, says: The United Nations has paid attention to the fact that women's rights are not properly secured in the world. According to the statistics, 68% of the world's work is done by women, but only 10% of the world's assets belong to women. Also, women farmers make up 50% of the agricultural labor force and produce 50% of the food, but in return, they receive the minimum wage. The same statistics are also raised in Iran.

He emphasizes: Fortunately, Iran is perhaps one of the few countries that has a specialized department to deal with the affairs of rural women and farmers. In addition to this structure, the office for the promotion of knowledge and agriculture also operates, and non-rural and non-nomadic women can take action within the framework of this office to follow up on affairs and benefit from the relevant capacities.

The former Director General of the Office for the Development of Agricultural Activities of Rural and Nomadic Women of the Agricultural Jihad also says: There is a national authority to provide statistics and information, and we have to rely on official statistics. Although unofficial statistics are also available, these statistics cannot be used as a basis for planning. In order to achieve accurate planning, it is necessary to update the statistics at certain intervals and every few years.

Referring to the limited resources and facilities for providing services to women farmers, Tahmasabi reminds: even for providing services to these loved ones, the existing credits and human resources are not responsive to their population; Therefore, the development of women's agriculture requires a national determination.
