Exclusive: Avatar Entertainment has acquired the rights to Spanish journalist Vicente Valls' novel La Caza del Ejecutor.
The London- and Los Angeles-based production and management company and content venture capitalist have teamed up with screenwriters Borja Moreno and Pablo Riquelme Cuartero to adapt the book into an eight-episode TV series. Avatar founder Larry Robinson is executive producing the project. No streamers or networks are connected at this point.
This is the second novel written by the journalist Veles, a veteran newscaster who anchors the evening news on Spanish television Antena 3. His previous novel Operation Kazan was once set on global television, although the story about a Russian-backed US presidential candidate eventually took a spin. Moreno and Quartero were hired by Universal for it. Watch on Deadline
"I'm thrilled to be working with the legendary Vicente Valls, Pablo Riquelme Cuartero and Borja Moreno to turn this exciting book into an incredible action thriller series that can be distributed worldwide," said Robinson, who spoke to Deadline at Cannes at MIPCOM.
It's been announced that Avatar has inked a TV adaptation deal for Cathy Hogan's novel, Sam Popp's action book series, and Ernest Hemingway's Mary Dearborn.
Moreno and Riquelme Cuartero are managed by Avatar, while Valls' novel is published by Editorial Espasa.Planta Group. Robinson and Avatar are repped by CAA.
