The Coalition studio announced that the cause of the problem in the servers of the game Gears of War: E-Day was the occurrence of a DDoS attack, which led to intermittent outages, problems entering the game and widespread disruptions in the servers.
Fully released last week, Gears of War: E-Day is the latest installment in Coalition Studios' popular series, which takes you back in time to the early days of the war against the Locusts.
Although this title was able to receive good scores from critics and was accompanied by the praise of players, it also faced criticism and is now the target of a cyber attack.
The official account of the Gears of War user community on the X social network confirmed this attack and wrote in a post:
Today, some players experienced intermittent connection disruptions, login issues, and other service outages in Gears of War: E-Day. These issues were due to distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks targeting our online services.
Our teams are continuously monitoring and dealing with these activities. In case of any significant changes, we will inform you of the new news. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
A DDoS attack is an attempt to disable or slow down a target service by flooding fake traffic from multiple sources simultaneously; An action that basically pushes the server to its maximum capacity and thus prevents real players from accessing it or causes problems on the server.
Those issues seem to have been resolved now, but it's another sign of the negative sentiment surrounding the game and the Xbox brand in general in what has been a tumultuous year.
Xbox has seen a large wave of layoffs this year and still has more plans in this field. This company is lagging behind Nintendo and PlayStation in the console competition and, among other issues, it is always dealing with questions and criticisms about its exclusive approach and Game Pass service.
The Gears collection has not been spared from these criticisms either; So that some of the new characters introduced in Gears of War: E-Day have been criticized and attacked.
