The Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso concept shows the future design vision of this Italian brand, promising gasoline performance cars and a new approach to electrification.

With the unveiling of the Cuorerosso concept, Alfa Romeo has once again proven its commitment to producing four-door sports cars with powerful performance. This concept model not only introduces the brand's future design language, but is also a response to how to integrate electric technologies with Alfa Romeo's original identity. Known as Alfa Romeo's strategic statement during the transition to a new era of cars, the Cuorerosso is a dynamic four-seater fastback.

The futuristic design of the Cuorerosso concept

In shaping the Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso concept, the philosophy of "Necessary Beauty" has been emphasized. This concept car is designed with the same dimensions as the current Julia model, with a length of 4.7 meters, a width of 1.98 meters, a height of 1.33 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.93 meters. These dimensions show that the Cuorerosso could be a preview of Alfa Romeo's 11-year-old sedan successor.

For this concept, Alfa Romeo has considered an aerodynamic form with a short and cut rear section, which is reminiscent of the brand's classic models. Its short, sharp nose is adorned with Alfa Romeo's Scudetto mesh grille, and the biscion badge lights up behind it to a heartbeat-like rhythm. Narrow headlights also give the car a grim and aggressive look.

The Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso concept cabin uses "steer-by-wire" technology, which eliminates the physical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. The steering wheel is designed with a flat upper part to provide a better view of the screen behind Alfa Romeo's traditional Canoquiale amp. In normal driving mode, the screen shows two separate circles for speed and engine rpm, but in sport or acceleration modes, it merges into a single central screen, inspired by the large screen on the 60's 33 Stradale.

Alfa Romeo also emphasizes keeping physical controls, with rotary knobs for the audio system and air conditioning integrated into the center console. This approach is in line with maintaining a distinctive brand identity in the Stellantis ecosystem.

V6 twin-turbo hybrid engine and vision of the future

The Cuorerosso concept also previews the technical specifications of the next-generation 'Cadrifolio' performance models. Alfa Romeo has set a net weight of 1,750 kg for this model, which is powered by a hybridized version of the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine. This power will be transmitted to all four wheels through a torque converter automatic transmission and a drive shaft made of carbon fiber.

Alfa Romeo has announced that this combination "puts technology at the service of driving pleasure". However, the company is preparing a full range of powertrains for its upcoming models, including mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids and all-electrics. Although many of the concept's details, such as the hinged rear doors and the absence of a traditional trunk, are purely conceptual, the Cuorerosso is a pivotal moment for Alfa Romeo, reaffirming the brand's commitment to its core models after long delays and a focus on small SUVs like the Tonale and Junior. This concept can inspire the design of a new generation of models such as the successor of the Giulietta hatchback.
