The Need to Preserve the Credibility of the Jalal Al-Ahmad Award Brand

The CEO of the House of Books and Literature of Iran, speaking at the faculty meeting of the 19th edition of the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award, said on preserving the credibility of the award: One way to maintain the award's brand credibility is for jury panels, in any category where they do not find a worthy and deserving work, to refrain from insisting on naming a winner.

According to Ambassador Arjan of Iran (Ambassador Arjan) citing the public relations and international affairs of Iran Book and Literature House, the first meeting of the academic staff of the 19th edition of the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award with the presence of Ebrahim Heydari, CEO of the Iran Book and Literature House, Gholamreza Tariki, Director General of the Literature, Poetry and Persian Language Office of the Deputy Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and Acting Vice-President of Poetry and Fiction of the Iran Book and Literature House, Shiva Moqanlu, the scientific secretary of the 19th edition of the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award and board members The academics of this course included Mahshid Mir Moazi, Mohammad Reza Godarzi, Behnaz Alipour Kaskari, Majid Qaisari, Issa Amankhani, Javad Afahemi, Ahmad Akbarpour and Habiba Jafarian (presented online) at Iran Book and Literature House.

The role of literature in the historical events of nations

In this meeting, Ebrahim Heydari expressed his satisfaction at the meeting with the academic staff of the 19th edition of the Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award and said: "For some reasons, the communication between government institutions, cultural departments and people of literature has decreased in the past years, and perhaps one of the ways to restore this relationship is to hold events such as the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award and other literary awards and to establish poetry and fiction gatherings." By reducing these connections, we have neglected our country's literature, poetry, and future, and we have severed the link between our past, present, and future. Our literary and cultural heritage must be preserved and transmitted and have its own dynamics, and this is what we expect from you, friends and people of literature.

He added: Our country has been facing various problems in the past one or two years and all factors have joined hands to put us in a difficult situation, and of course, literature is always a friend in difficult times. Throughout history, the narrators of hard days and their lessons for the next generations were the people of literature.

Heydari continued: In the recent patriotic sufferings, the narratives and heart-writs of you people of literature and its promotion on social networks show what has happened to this land and what atrocities have been committed, especially against the children of this land, including the children of Minab and their families. It is with your pen that we understand what sufferings were inflicted on this country and what families mourned their loved ones. It is with your pen that all these events are transmitted to posterity in the international and national space. Think about it, one morning the parents send the child to school, but in the afternoon they can't even pick up his body. Do you know anything more painful than this story?

He also mentioned the plans of Iran's Book and Literature House to protect the martyrs of the students of Shajreh Taybeh Minab school and said: We are holding an event called Minab's six-word story. Nearly 16 thousand works from 29 countries in different languages reached the secretariat of this award. This shows how much this incident has sounded in the world and how much it has hurt people's hearts. These are transferred with your pen. What families were sleeping at night and died in the morning with their children. This is only a part of the crimes that the enemies of Iran have committed against the nation. Any Iranian who is injured in any way and in any position is an Iranian and it hurts our hearts. These events should be recorded and passed on to future generations.

In another part of his speech about the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award, the CEO of the Iran Book and Literature House said: I have seen the effect of the space I described in the works that have reached this period of the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award, the slight drop in the works is one of the signs of the current situation.

He continued: Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award is our most important literary award. An award that has credibility, and both the chosen one and the publisher who published that work, later benefit from the credit given to them by the award. Regardless of any political and social viewpoint, we should see this award as a specialized work. It cannot be said that politics is separate from this issue, but the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award is a prestigious award that all institutions, institutions and people are sensitive to. It is an honor to be part of its faculty. I sincerely thank Ms. Moqanlu for accepting the responsibility of this course, and I am also grateful to Mr. Majid Qaisari who organized this award last year and this year we are going to continue to benefit from their knowledge and experience in the academic staff.

In another part of his speech, Heydari mentioned the fate of the selected works in the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award and said: Based on the documentary reports, the selected or meritorious works and even the works nominated to receive the final award in the past editions of this award have been published between eight and 10 times on average. In other words, the impact of the Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award can be seen even on the publishers of selected works. Usually, the booths of these publishers are more crowded in the Tehran book fair and they also sell well in the book market system.

CEO of Iranian Book and Literature House added: On the other hand, the social credibility of this award is also significant. The winners of this award are known as the brand of the field of literature and we introduce these dignitaries to various centers in international and domestic exhibitions. Today, the Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award has become a prestigious brand, and it owes this reputation to the efforts of you, the greats in the field of literature. I request you to do something in this period to preserve this brand with the same precision you had until today.

We must accept weakness in some areas

In another part of his speech, Heydari pointed out that Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award is not necessarily supposed to have selected works in all sections, and said: One of the ways to preserve the brand is that if the jury does not see a worthy and acceptable work in one of the groups, they should not insist on choosing the selected work. In the last term, no selected work was introduced in the literary criticism group, and the experts saw that we have a weakness in this subject area and we should investigate it. If we had introduced the selected work, the experts would not have noticed the weakness of research in this field.

He added: "If we have made a mistake somewhere, we must accept it and correct it." You professors should check where we went wrong and where we have problems and provide a solution for it. Criticism along with problem solving will be effective.

Reduction in the production of publishing industry in the field of fiction

Gholamreza Tariqi also said in this meeting: In general, the works published in the field of fiction in 1404 were less than in 1403, and this is normal considering the war conditions and embargo.

He added: Therefore, the situation in the field of books and publishing is also affected by the current conditions. Probably, with the same scale, we have seen a decrease in the publication of works in other fields as well.

Side programs of the 19th Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award

Shiva Moqanlu, the academic secretary of the 19th Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award, also addressed the faculty members in this meeting and said: I am honored to have all of you here. Gathering all of you under one roof and using your knowledge, experience and science, in my opinion, makes this course a very special one. Definitely, the judges appointed by this team will be among the best judges of the Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award.

He added: We have some proposed side programs on the agenda. The first is the recognition of a veteran story writer. A lifetime achievement award is given to someone who has devoted his life to Iranian and Persian fiction. The next part is the recognition of a top Iranian publisher whose main publishing activities were Iranian authored fiction. Dear colleagues believed that this year this award can be given to two publishers; Both veteran and young publishers. It means that a more fair competition is provided for new publishers in this field.

Moqanlu continued: The next plan is to publish a book in the field of criticism. This specialized book includes the translation and summary of parts of the latest books in the world in the field of literary criticism. The case examples of this book are selected from among the winners of different periods of the Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award. This book should be available to students of educational courses and workshops of Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award. This book can even be made available to the general public later. The book is short and easy for everyone to read and understand.

He also mentioned the publication of a book of selected works and continued: From the collection of selected stories of the past periods of the Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award and also of this period, one short story will be selected from each book and compiled into a collection. This book is published in English for non-Iranian audiences. This book will be a good basis for the introduction of contemporary Iranian literature in international festivals and exhibitions and for all non-Iranian literary agencies and publishers who intend to translate Iranian works.

In the end, the secretary of the 19th Jalal Al-Ahmed Literary Award said: We have thought about these proposals before. Today, we have gathered here with the faculty members of the 19th Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award to decide on these proposals and to select the jury for this course.

Professor Perigarina has received numerous international awards and honors from Pakistan, India and Iran, among them the gold medal for the best Persian language teacher from the Iranian government before the Islamic Revolution and the World Book of the Year Award of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the translation of the Masnavi in 2009.

The CEO of Iran Book and Literature House, in the meeting of the academic staff of the 19th Jalal Al-Ahmad Literary Award, said about the necessity of maintaining the credibility of this award: One of the ways to maintain the credibility of the brand of this award is that if the jury does not see a worthy work in one of the groups, they will not insist on introducing the selected work.
