In these troubling times when Americans feel more divided than ever, it's nice to see this nation come together from time to time.
Today is one of those days. America is united for Dale Earnhardt and the memories we have of an American who stood up for everything this country once stood for. Dale was our best. He was an ordinary man. He was a guy working on a car in a garage behind a mobile home. He was an American company. He was a man who just wanted to take his fishing boat out a few times a year to relax.
That's why when the Greensboro Police Department tweeted on Wednesday that "raise the hell up, praise Dale" is not an appropriate response when asked why you're speeding, America had no choice but to attack him.
Dale Earnhardt once broke his arm killing a deer on his North Carolina ranch.
Like Dale taking rainbow punk warrior Jeff Gordon to the wall, the best people in the country have declared (virtual) war on the GPD.
Even Dale Jr. attacked because of his father's memory.

Of course, NASCAR, which wants fans to continue rooting for a modern driver as hard as they rooted for Dale, stepped in. "Leave the speed to the race track," the NASCAR account tweeted. The reaction was immediately slammed by long-time NASCAR fans who remember why the sport was invented.
"That's not the kind of bootleg attitude you guys started out with," one fan responded. Another wrote: "NASCAR was built by people who outsmarted cops while carrying moonshine. This is ironic."
The Americans informed the Greensboro Party that they would never, ever stop praising Dale. This is the social structure they signed up for long ago.
