The Plaza Hotel New York will close in 2027 for at least four years
The historic hotel next to Central Park, which was featured in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Elvis on the Plaza, is closing for renovations.
New York City's historic Plaza Hotel will close its doors in January 2027 for at least four years as it undergoes extensive renovations on its landmark-protected facade, according to its operator, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. The hotel is expected to remain closed until 2031 if the cleanup is completed on time, although it has not yet announced a reopening date.
According to the New York Times, the closure will affect the hotel's 282 guest rooms, event spaces and Palm Court restaurant, which are expected to close in January. The property also has 181 condominium units, although it is not yet clear if the renovation will affect residents.

Opened in 1907, the Plaza is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Central Park South, overlooking Central Park. This 18-story building, designed by architect Janoy Hardenberg, has French Renaissance style architecture. The hotel was designated a New York City landmark in 1969.
The Plaza has also become a well-known film and television site. Titles filmed or set in the hotel include Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), in which Kevin McCallister and Macaulay Culkin stay at the hotel, as well as North by Northwest (1959), The Way We Were (1973) and Elvis on the Plaza (2003), among others.
President Donald Trump also owned the Plaza from 1988 to 1995. Trump starred in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
The upcoming closing marks another major break in the Plaza's history. The hotel previously closed in 2005 for renovations that converted many of its original rooms into private accommodations before reopening in 2008.
