The prediction was right: For some reason, a Shrek 2 remake is coming

Sure, whatever

After being revealed during last month's Steam/Exophase Big Achievements release, we have our first look at Shrek 2: Remastered, which brings the four-player co-op game to modern consoles. This leak, ironically, also came from a leak, but this time it's Xbox's fault for accidentally posting its store page too soon.

The listing includes several screenshots, a pre-order trailer, and a lengthy description of all the new features and updates to the 2004 platformer. The game gets a facelift with "better textures, improved UI, [and] 4K resolution," as well as new features like photo mode and cheat mode that let you change the game. The game supports both local and online co-op, so if you're getting your kids into Shrek before Shrek 5 next year, you can play it with them, or if you miss the original game and want to play it with your friends and siblings who live far away, there's an online option.

I played Shrek 2 when it came out and was surprised how much of it came back to me when I watched the trailer. I guess I'm a little confused as to why Aspyr is bringing this game back now, but I guess it was popular enough back in the day that it's an easy branding synergy moment for Shrek 5. The game basically follows the story of the 2004 movie, but has parts that exist outside of the movie to fill things out.

The store page and pre-order trailer don't mention a release date, but if the announcement is as imminent as it seems, we might not have to wait too long to find out when Shrek 2 Remaster will be released.
