James Gunn quashes Millie Alcock Supergirl rumors, shares Man of Tomorrow update

James Gunn has dismissed rumors that Millie Alcock was fired as Supergirl and confirmed that he will show Peter Safran an early cut of The Man of Tomorrow later today.

The DC studio boss took to Threads on Oct. 16 to dispel rumors surrounding his comic book movie projects. Although he found it a little tiring to cover the endless stream of internet gossip, there were a few he wanted to attack when replying to a fan on Twitter/X.

First of all, it was rumored that Matt Reeves, the director of Batman 2, has dropped out as a director entirely. Almost everyone now confirmed to be in the Elseworlds sequel has already made it clear that Reeves will still be involved, so his denial here is no surprise. Another recent rumor has been circulating by some fans that the Supergirl star has been let go, but this rumor is also not true.

DC moviegoers feared the worst for Alcock's character after realizing the star had removed Kara Zor-El's name from her Instagram timeline. While that's not entirely true — some Supergirl-related photos and footage are still in the public eye — her standalone film's struggles in theaters led one to believe she'd leave the DCU behind.

Gunn confirmed that this is not the case, and it's easy to see why. Alcock first appeared as the character in Superman 2025 and reprized his role in Supergirl when it was released in June. He's established himself in the new world of comic book movies, but he's also set to make a triumphant return in Man of Tomorrow.

Earlier this summer, Gunn teased that Alcock would return as Kara when the Superman sequel hits theaters in July 2027. He even went so far as to say that his dynamic with David Kornzot's Clark Kent would appear in the new movie while filming was underway recently.

Speaking of The Man of Tomorrow, the third rumor that Gunn shot down was rumors that the DCU movie had received poor reviews after an early screening that apparently featured a dark ending and the death of a popular hero. It's another bit of gossip that the Comic-Con director and director confirmed "couldn't be more false," but it also came with an update.

By the way, Gunn was going to show Safran a director's cut of Man of Tomorrow later today. He said his fellow DC studio boss was "obviously" the first person to see any version of the film, adding, "And it's a month early!"

Gunn's words come at a time that has DC fans more anxious than ever. Superman started the DCU's live-action corner with a bang when it hit theaters last year, but that momentum stalled with Supergirl. Although Lanterns has strong casting and a solid storyline, there are doubts among those online who fear that the likes of Clayface and Man of Tomorrow will not be delivered.

Gunn, at least, looks more confident than ever. As far as rumors go, while fans wait for official updates, there's only so much he's willing to entertain.

"Hey bro," his post read. "You guys just need to stop listening to the BS, and I've gotten most of the rumors out of the way, because there are too many rumors and I'm not around much."

In case you didn't know, the former Marvel filmmaker has already ramped up the rumors. For example, when fans thought Supernatural star Jenson Ackles was playing the DCU's Batman, Gunn quickly stepped in to put an end to it all.
