Hormozgan Onions on the Way to Markets Nationwide / Will Prices Come Down?

With the start of autumn onion cultivation in Hormozgan and a projected harvest of 450,000 tons, attention is turning to the supply outlook for this crop over the coming months, a factor that could affect market trends and onion prices.

Ambassador Arjan: With the start of autumn onion cultivation in Hormozgan and the forecast of 450,000 tons of harvest, the prospect of supplying this product in the coming months has been noticed. An issue that can affect the market trend and onion price.

Seyyed Reza Amirizadeh stated: Hormozgani farmers started the autumn cultivation of onions in 8,900 hectares of the agricultural lands of the province, and it is expected that about 450,000 tons of onions will be harvested from the agricultural lands of the province, which is no different compared to last year.

Pointing out that the onion production in Hormozgan is 9 times the province's needs, he added: the harvested product is sent to the whole country and to Afghanistan, Iraq and the Persian Gulf countries, and onion cultivation continues until December.

Amirizadeh said: Farmers use the high-yielding and marketable cultivars Taki, Rio Bravo, Skore and Nickerson for cultivation, which are highly popular among farmers due to their compatibility with the hot and humid climate of the province and their resistance to pests.

Hormozgan Agricultural Jihad Organization director added: Bandar Abbas and Minab cities are the most important onion growing areas.

He pointed out that the onion harvest season starts at the end of December and continues until the middle of May next year, and Hormozgan ranks second in onion production in the country.
