Deadline can confirm that Paramount has acquired the film rights to Pierce Brown's best-selling sci-fi book series, Red Rising, and has tapped Francis Lawrence to direct an adaptation of the first installment of the same name.

Justin Rhodes, writer and producer with credits such as Terminator: Dark Fate and the Prime Video series Secret Level, is writing the script. Lawrence and Cameron McConomey will executive produce for about.blank alongside Francesco Goodhuis and writer Brown.

Red Rising follows Daro, a "red" miner on Mars who discovers his people are being enslaved by the ruling Golden Caste. After rebuilding to infiltrate Gold's society, he joins a rebellion that seeks to overthrow the color hierarchy of his world. It's the latest adaptation of the acclaimed book set up at Paramount, which is releasing a blockbuster adaptation of Tommy Adeyemi's YA romance fantasy novel Children of Blood of Blood and Bone on January 15, 2027. Known for directing the five Hunger Games movies — including The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which opens Nov. 20 — Lawrence is coming up on Lionsgate's adaptation of Stephen King's The Long Walk. Most recently, he signed a deal with the same studio for Carry Me to My Grave, an adaptation of Christopher Golden's recently released horror novel that he is looking to direct and produce.
