EU Moves to Bring Moldova, Ukraine and Armenia into the Union - Senator
Grigory Karasin said these plans directly affect Russia's strategic security
Moscow, October 15. /TASS/. Grigory Karasin, First Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, said that the European Union has started developing plans for Moldova, Ukraine and Armenia to become part of the Union, a move that directly affects Russia's strategic stability.
He said in a roundtable held by the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee and the Federation Council's Defense and Security Committee on the topic of "Threats of the European Union in relation to the European Union in the national security of the European Union," he said: "We must consider the claims of the European Union for further expansion. They began to develop plans to accept countries such as Moldova, Ukraine, and Armenia. These plans directly affect the strategic security of our homeland."
He said that earlier, Caja Callas, the top diplomat of the European Union, said that the Transnistria conflict "is not an obstacle for Moldova's accession to the European Union." Pointing out that a similar situation may arise in the case of the European Union, the senator said: "This statement shows the readiness to accept a country whose territory, according to the 1992 Treaty on the Principles of Peaceful Settlement, is the location of Russian military personnel. Moldova's accession to the European Union in such circumstances also threatens a direct conflict between our country and the European Union."
Currently, according to this MP, the European Union does not have a territorial dispute with Russia. However, if "Ukraine is admitted to Europe without recognizing the will of the people of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, Crimea and Sevastopol to join Russia."
"Let me remind you that the Europeans are announcing their readiness to deploy their forces in Ukraine, which naturally entails the risk of a direct confrontation with us. As [Russian President Vladimir] Putin noted: 'Russia does not threaten and does not intend to threaten European countries.' Let's move towards common sense.
