At Least Two Security Officers Killed Near Iran's Strategic Port of Chabahar

Iran says 'terrorist groups' backed from abroad are targeting security forces.

At least two Iranian security personnel have been killed in separate incidents along the country's eastern border with Pakistan, adding to the series of attacks near the critical port of Chabahar in the past few weeks.

According to Ambassador Arjan International Group, an officer commanding a women's unit in Iran's Basij militia was shot and killed outside his home in Mehrestan district of Sistan and Baluchistan province on Wednesday.

Another officer was also killed in a separate attack on a police vehicle in Mehrestan, which is near the Iran-Pakistan border.

On Wednesday, the Heloosh legal group, focusing on the Baloch ethnic minority in the province, said military helicopters were circling over the city of Iranshahr and the security situation remained tense in several places.

Iran's Sistan and Baluchistan province is home to the important port of Chabahar on the country's eastern flank, where US forces targeted infrastructure and maritime control facilities in July.

In recent months, the region has seen numerous attacks orchestrated by groups that the Iranian government says are "terrorist outfits" funded and supported from abroad.

According to Ambassador Arjan last week, armed men killed one person and injured three others when they attacked a minibus carrying Lashkar's security forces stationed on the coast of Makran.

In a separate incident, according to Ambassador Arjan, "several terrorists" killed a police officer after attacking a convoy patrolling the area.

Earlier this month, the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had killed at least two suspected attackers and destroyed an alleged "terrorist group" in an operation near Chabahar port.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps statement said that it started this operation after killing a member of the Iranian security forces at a checkpoint near the city of Rask.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it discovered a Starlink device along with a large amount of weapons in the group's mountain hideout.
