Manganiello wrote, “She told me that when we first met, she wasn't thinking about having kids, but she swore she would if she remarried and her husband wanted kids. It was immediately clear how we felt about each other, so at the insistence of his doctor, we started trying through IVF even before we got engaged.
Manganiello said that after two years of trying to have a child, they were unsuccessful. The former couple even considered having a surrogate, but after $200,000, they decided it wasn't the right time because of Manganiello's "mystery illness."
Manganiello says her illness changed the marriage
A year after the couple married, Manganiello was hospitalized for two consecutive months.
"To see me, Sofia had to lie out of sight in the back of her assistant's car until they were sure they had lost the paparazzi before going to the hospital, where she disguised herself in a wig and hat and sneaked off the dock," Manganiello wrote.

It was Vergara who decided to have Manganiello's colon removed by a doctor to keep him alive.
While I was under, they called Sofia, who, as someone close to me, had to choose what I wanted the doctors to do. "He made the cruel but life-saving decision to allow my entire colon to be removed and a hole to be made in my stomach to reroute my small intestine."

"When I awoke ten hours later, he was at the foot of my bed to inform me that the surgery had saved my life but that he had left me with an ostomy bag indefinitely, possibly forever," she wrote.
Manganiello blamed his illness for helping to break up his marriage to Vergara.
"I started living separately on opposite sides of the house during the day and as I lost my zest for life and the dream of me and him becoming parents together died, the fire between us started to die." He said referring to his time off from the hospital

Manganiello was hospitalized for two months after a year of symptoms from his "mystery illness." He lost 60 pounds within two weeks of having his colon removed to save his life.
He wrote in his memoirs that a Cuban shaman told him he was "sick" and that "something was wrong with his intestines." At the time, Manganiello said her immediate family members didn't even know the extent of her illness, giving Vergara a "side eye" of "equal parts fear, anger and disbelief."
The shaman then said that an ex from Vergara's past, who still had romantic feelings for her, cursed Manganiello.
"Someone from your past is still in love with you. She cursed at your husband. She did it in New Orleans." Manganiello recalls the shaman telling him.

"Your husband must be purified and protected," she continued. I can do this. I can help him. But I have to see him for two days and I can't come to America. Can he meet me somewhere else? "I can meet him in Ecuador."
Manganiello was stunned by the shaman's comments.
"I looked at Sophia, trying to figure out how this man could know any of this," she wrote. None of this was mentioned in the press.
Manganiello began racking his brain trying to figure out who it could be. He eventually believed he could be "the guy she was with right before me."
Vergara and Nick Loeb called off their engagement in 2014. That same year, Vergara began dating Manganiello. He wrote in his memoir that while dating Vergara, Loeb suffered a "horror machine" and began to question whether his ex-wife was cursed.
Manganiello writes, “It occurred to me that maybe this was Sofia who was cursed and cursed by a man in her past who couldn't have her, so she put some kind of hex on her to pass on to every man she dated for the rest of her life.
He continued, "I was fully aware of how crazy it was to seriously engage in these strange thoughts, but then again, how did the shaman know all this about me?"

Loeb shared a statement with Page Six after learning of Manganiello's allegations. "I pray that they find Jesus, not another shaman," he told the media.
Manganiello recounted the moment he told Durga that he was "leaving the marriage."
"After he went on vacation to Italy with his friend, I found a place to live, got the keys and ordered a bed and a TV to be delivered over the weekend. Then I packed everything I had and moved," she wrote.
Manganiello explained that it was only after they moved from their Beverly Hills home to a new place in Venice Beach that she filed for divorce.
He also wrote about a $500,000 loan he took out from Vergara to prevent a bond company from taking over 2019's "Down the Ninth" after "a major budget error was discovered in post-production."
"Since I was the producer as well as the star, I felt it was my responsibility to save the film, and when I started the bank loan process, Sofia offered to lend me the money at 0 percent interest," Manganiello wrote. I've never taken a dime from a date in my life, let alone from him, but I swallowed what little pride I had left and accepted.
