LYON, France — Short films by Brady Corbett, Colbert Mendonça Filho and Celine Ciama join the international sales catalog of Paris-based MK2 Films, which is expanding its collection of lesser-seen works by established filmmakers.

Unveiled during the Lumiere Lyon Film Festival chaired by Cannes director Thierry Fermo and its International Film Market Classics (MIFC), the acquisitions span almost two decades, from Corbett's 2008 You + Me to two recent works: Tutti Frutti and Sciamma's Tutti Frutti. The acquisitions are part of MK2 Films' broader effort to grow its short film catalog alongside its feature film business. Popular in Variety

"These short films create a dialogue with the feature films of the iconic filmmakers presented in the MK2 Films series, and offer a different perspective on their creative vision and cinematic language," said Frederick Rowe, Head of MK2 Films Collections. They also open up new programming opportunities for festivals and cinemas, allowing audiences to discover the less-seen works of some of today's most influential directors."

The new acquisitions join Jia Zhangke's The Shadow of Turin, which premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and in the New York Film Festival's Spotlight Shorts Program. The catalog also includes original works by two Palme d'Or winners Jean-Pierre and Luc Darden, notably "Le Chant du Rossignol," acquired through MK2 Films' recently announced deal with their production company Les Films du Fleuve.

Sciamma's 44-minute "Tutti Frutti" is drawn from personal footage he's taken since 2022, exploring filmmaking as a solitary practice. Commissioned by Center Pompidou and produced by Lilies Films, this film premiered in Paris in June during a review directed by the director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and won the Jury Prize at Villa Medici Film Festival 2026.

MK2's catalog currently includes Sciamma's 2023 short This Is How a Child Becomes a Poet, a tribute to Italian poet Patrizia Cavalli that premiered at Venice Days. The company also represents her entire filmography, including "Little Mama" and new cuts "Tomboy" and "Girlhood" in 2026.

In Mendonsa Filho's nine-minute film "South of Tehran", Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi recalls his first encounters with cinema. Produced by Emilie Lesclaux and Film at Lincoln Center, it was filmed at the 2025 New York Film Festival, where the two directors were presenting their latest features, and was developed out of conversations between them. It debuted at the New York festival earlier this year as the inaugural project of NYFF Encounters, an annual initiative that commissions filmmakers to shoot short films during the festival.

MK2 has already beaten international sales Panahi's Just an Accident, winner of the 2025 Cannes Palme d'Or, and Mendonça Filho's Secret Agent, which won Best Brazilian Director and Wagner Moura Best Actor at Cannes the same year.

Kasab Som looks at his career as a director. Shot by cinematographer Dariush Khunji, Corbett's Protect You + Me gives audiences a chance to explore the director's early work, long before his major breakthrough with The Brutalist, an acclaimed historical drama that won three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody, and a Silver Lion for Best Director in 2020.

In 2009, this short film received an honorable mention at the Sundance Film Festival.

The acquisition cements MK2 Films' ties to Corbett, who starred in Michael Haneke's "Funny Games," a recent addition to the company's catalog, and Greg Araki's "Mysterious Skin," which MK2 is preparing for a theatrical re-release in a new 4K remake.

The Lumière Film Festival runs until October 18th in Lyon and the MIFC ends on October 16th.
