Ben Affleck calls filming «Justice League» a "low point" in his career: "No matter how bad it gets"

Ben Affleck has admitted that filming Justice League was a "low point" in his acting career.
The actor-producer-director recently appeared on the Happy Sad Gage podcast, where he told host Josh Horowitz why making a movie is such a negative experience. Affleck played Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 2017 superhero film.
"The truth is, the Justice League experience was very negative for me for a variety of reasons," he admitted. "Some of it has to do with where I was personally, some of it has to do with the tragedy that happened at the time, and also the fact that I really saw how not to make a movie like that when the studio is at odds with the filmmaker. You're really wrong. That's what really doomed it."

After 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice became a major disappointment to critics and fell short of Warner Bros. box office expectations, the studio wanted Zack Snyder's Justice League to have a lighter tone, despite the filmmaker's dark creative vision for the film.
Snyder withdrew from the film during post-production after the death of his daughter. Warner Bros. then hired director Joss Whedon to oversee the extensive shooting, which ultimately made the film lighter.
"Boy, that was bullshit," Affleck said. Her being cut from that movie, and the reshoots we did — [that was] my career low point, if you want to.
Horowitz also asked the "Animals" star and director if he had some kind of "epiphany" while working on "Justice League," as he saw "the movie kind of falling apart in front of you."
"One person's death by suicide, which overshadows everything," Affleck replied. And the way it was, to be honest, I thought it was an excuse... I just thought it was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. It was very bad. And then the whole environment and atmosphere, which I didn't know much about, but I'd kind of heard about secondhand in terms of Ray [Fisher]'s experiences and other people. "Wow, that's about as awkward as it gets."
Several years later, fans finally got to see Snyder's version of the film. The Justice League director's cut was released on HBO Max in 2021 following a global fan campaign, a shift in strategy for the streamer and Warner Bros. investing $70 million to complete visual effects and editing.
"I'm really happy and I'm glad that Zach was able to release [his cut], and he did it in a very clever way ... he manipulated his way to release his thing, which was great," Affleck said. "I was really happy for him."
