Square is launching new hardware: a large kiosk for ordering things that has a touch screen and lets you talk to an AI. It is called a field kiosk.
Square says the kiosk, which is shaped like a large tablet, has a "conversational voice layer" that "completely understands the vendor's menu and listens and responds in real-time, enabling customers to order the way they naturally speak to staff." When talking to the AI agent, you can do things like ask questions and request changes and substitutions.
Square says the kiosk's touchscreen is 21.5 inches, and thanks to presence detection, the device can greet you as you approach. When it's time to pay, you can use a contactless payment reader or card slot.
Square Kiosk is available starting today for $1,999 for businesses with a Square Plus or Premium subscription, and will also have a monthly software fee of $99 per device.
