Raven's AI tool lets police examine a photo of a home's interior for clues to its location. The tool can even use a simple image of a washer and dryer to find potential accommodations; A feature that has raised privacy and surveillance concerns.

According to 404 Media, Raven is used by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office. Graylark Technologies has developed this tool. Raven was formerly known as GeoSpy, and new building location capabilities were added after the name change and tool development.

Of course, Raven cannot locate every house in the world with every interior photo. The tool's capability is apparently limited to certain properties and uses clues in the image and published information about the properties to find a possible location.

In a LinkedIn post, the CEO of Graylark Technologies showed how Raven can perform an area search using an image of a washing machine and dryer to identify the possible location of the photo.

404 Media's review found that the text generated in the tool's results directly quoted ads posted on Airbnb and the short-term rental website Vrbo; However, Heinen did not mention this in his post.

Raven is not just a reverse image search tool. The system identifies distinctive interior details and uses them to find potential listings and images for the same property. As a result, even if the existing photo is not the same as the one published in the ad, the tool can find possible options by matching the characteristics of the environment.

An earlier version of the technology, GeoSpy, was trained with millions of images from around the world to identify distinct geographic landmarks, including building architecture and soil features. Raven extends this capability to the interior of buildings and their likely location.
