No Man's Sky Is Coming to iOS and Looks Absolutely Extraordinary
Somehow it has been cut down to 3.8 GB, but apparently the only solution is giving up multiplayer.
Somehow it's down to 3.8GB, but apparently the only solution is to lose multiplayer.
No Man's Sky, the infamous 2016 and now rightfully famous space game Infinite Galaxies, which currently requires 32GB of space on your PC, is coming to mobile?! Hello Games seems to have spent the last three years figuring out how to properly run the game on the iPhone or iPad, but without compromising or removing content. And if the footage in the trailer matches what's been released, it's bloody hell.
And this is not vanilla No Man's Sky, the previous version before the last decade of updates: this is everything! It has everything, including last month's massive Cosmos update, and different parts of my body are crying right now that this wasn't made for Android.
According to Sean Murray's update on the Hello Games site, this all started shortly after the game was announced for Mac. "I think I can run this on an iPhone," said one team member, which Murray considered at the time a "seemingly impossible technical challenge," but one of the team "wanted to turn it down."
Hello Games' emphasis is that "this is not No Man's Sky Lite", but the original game, including the massive updates of the last few years. Of course, physics still apply, so it's not literally like playing on PC and modern consoles. "Similar to our Switch 1, Murray explains that the setup has limitations. Planetary Settlements is supported on iPhone 15 Pro and above, multiplayer is not supported. However, all iOS devices from the iPhone 11 and third-generation iPad Airs can play the game, albeit without checkout.
Obviously, the user interface and controls have been redesigned for touchscreens, but the game also works with a controller and even a mouse and keyboard. But the strangest news is that it somehow dropped below 4GB. Hello Games even claims that it won't kill your battery instantly, but "can be enjoyed for very long and comfortable gaming sessions." Can all this really be true?
The iOS version of No Man's Sky is due out on October 28th and will use the new "free trial" trend, although the price to buy the full game (and it will be the full game, not in-app purchases or installment payments) has yet to be determined.
I know an Android version isn't likely, but please, please, this would be amazing on my pixel tablet.
