Russia: France's Seizure of the Oil Tanker 'DF Peak' Is Piracy
The Russian Embassy in France condemned the seizure of the oil tanker DF Peak by the country and described the action as piracy.
The Russian Embassy in France, while condemning the seizure of the DF Pic oil tanker by this country, described this action as piracy.
According to the report of Ambassador Arjan, quoted by Ryanovsi, the Russian Embassy in France criticized the action of the navy of this country in detaining the oil tanker DFP and announced that Paris is trying to justify its open piracy by citing maritime laws.
According to this report, the Russian embassy has announced that the French authorities had not informed the Moscow embassy about the seizure of the oil tanker before, and Russian diplomats are investigating the possibility of the presence of citizens of this country among the ship's crew.
The Russian embassy also described the actions of the French navy as "a clear violation of international law."
On Monday, October 12, the French Navy stopped and inspected the oil tanker DF Peak more than 450 nautical miles south of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the tanker was suspected of using a false flag and participating in illegal fuel transfer activities.
Macron has said France is determined to confront Russia's "shadow fleet" around the world.
According to the French military headquarters, the ship was sailing under the flag of Benin, and an examination of the documents after French forces came aboard confirmed doubts about the legality of its flag. The tanker was then escorted by the French Navy to the anchorage near Reunion Island to continue the judicial investigation. The French army announced that this action was carried out based on Article 110 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and in the framework of the investigation of the nationality of the ship.
