Saving the underground water resources of Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad has exceeded the target, and at the same time, increasing rainfall and new programs for managing dams and dealing with floods have been put on the agenda.

Sefir Arjan-Economic Group: The CEO of Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad Regional Water Company said: The amount of saving in the province's underground water resources in 1399 to 1404 reached 66 million cubic meters, which is 29 million cubic meters more than the target set in the drought adaptation programs.

Islam Gadami stated on Friday in Gachsaran: Installing 480 smart meters and filling and decommissioning 538 unauthorized wells are among the measures taken to protect underground water sources and control withdrawals in the province.

He added: According to the water scarcity adaptation programs, in the five-year period from 1399 to 1404, it was targeted to save 37 million cubic meters in underground water resources, and with the realization of 66 million cubic meters, the performance of the province exceeded the predicted amount.

The CEO of Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad Regional Water Company continued: In the surface water resources sector, 13 million cubic meters have been achieved out of the target of 21 million cubic meters of savings.

Referring to the plans to strengthen underground water resources and aquifers, Gadami said: In this sector, four million cubic meters of the amount predicted in the plan of the regional water company of the province have been realized.

Referring to the rainfall situation in the water year 1404-1405, he said: the amount of rainfall recorded in the province reached 686 mm, which is a 97% increase compared to the previous water year and about five percent growth compared to the long-term average.

Gadami stated that managing water reserves and preparing to deal with possible floods is one of the priorities of the regional water company, adding that the amount of storage in the reservoir of Chamshir dam is 39% and that of Kausar dam is 74%, and planning for optimal management of water resources and use of the capacity of the dams is ongoing.

He said: "Meetings have been held to investigate possible risks and take preventive measures, and identification of vulnerable points, dredging of rivers at critical times and informing the stakeholders have been put on the agenda.

The CEO of Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad Regional Water Company also announced plans to implement the hydrographic operation of the Kausar dam reservoir after 13 years and said: This operation is carried out with the aim of determining the exact amount of sediments accumulated in the reservoir and comparing it with the estimates of the dam design time and the results of the latest surveys.

Pointing to the role of Kausar Dam in providing drinking water to the southern regions of the country, Gadami added: This dam, which was put into operation in 2002, supplies drinking water to about 2.5 million people of the five provinces of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Fars and Hormozgan.

He stated: Since the beginning of the last water year, 380 million cubic meters of water entered the Kausar Dam reservoir, of which 330 million cubic meters were taken out of the reservoir for various purposes and 50 million cubic meters were added to its reserves.

The CEO of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad Regional Water Company continued: 116 million cubic meters of allocated water were allocated to supply drinking water to the target population, 54 million cubic meters were allocated for agricultural purposes in the lands of the left terrace of the Khairabad River and Dasht Lishtar, and 11 million cubic meters were allocated for industrial uses in the oil, gas and petrochemical sectors.

Gadami stated: In the last hydrographic operation, the volume of the Kausar Dam reservoir was estimated from 580 million cubic meters to 547 million cubic meters, which was consistent with the predicted figures at the time of the design of the dam, and the new survey allows for a more accurate assessment of the sedimentation situation and the capacity of the reservoir.

Pointing to the necessity of protecting the province's water resources, he said: Controlling withdrawals, preventing unauthorized exploitation, strengthening aquifers and preparing for flood management are among the main axes of the regional water company's plans to protect water resources and sustainably supply the needs of the province.

176 villages of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad are still in the list of water stressed areas; The provincial authorities have promised that by implementing water supply projects and allocating 405 billion tomans of credit, 100 villages in 1406 and 76 villages by the first half of 1407 will be out of water tension.

The latest statistics of the Iranian Water Resources Management Company show that the input of the reservoirs of the country's dams has increased by 74% in the current water year and the volume of water reserves has also increased by 37%, but the 6 important dams of the country still have less than 10% of water.

President Masoud Mezikian emphasized the need to strengthen the scientific and technological power of the country to deal with the coercion of the enemies, he emphasized on the reform of agricultural practices, intelligent management of the production chain, prevention of brokering and preservation of water and soil resources for future generations.
