With Russia's increased use of jet-powered surveillance drones in Ukraine, the need for a new generation of high-speed interceptors to counter this emerging threat is urgent.
American company Powerus, active in drone technology, is developing innovative solutions to this challenge. New and high-speed versions of Shahid drones fly at a speed of approximately 600 kilometers per hour, which makes it difficult to deal with them and puts pressure on Ukraine's defense systems. Powerus strives to stay ahead of this growing threat by providing efficient jet interceptors.
High-speed witness drones: threats and countermeasures challenges
The increasing emergence of high-speed witness drones equipped with jet engines in Ukraine has necessitated the need for high-speed interceptors. Powerus' Bret Velikovich considers these drones very difficult to deal with due to their high speed. It is expected that by the end of this year, most of the Russian drones sent to Kiev will be of the jet type. The mass production of these drones at a low cost ($20,000 to $30,000) makes it challenging to build suitable interceptors.
Guardian 3 autonomous interceptor and mass production program
Powerus company has introduced Guardian 3 fully autonomous interceptor. Guardian 3 has an automatic function, eliminating the need for a manual operator. The company plans to produce 5,000 interceptors per month by November, and its ultimate goal is to produce 50,000 units per month. Powerus has won an $82 million contract with the US Air Force for its anti-drone systems, including the Guardian family of interceptors, and is also working with the Pakistani military and Parsons.
